Women Connect 2024 Round Up

Posting date: 13/05/2024

Women Connect is an annual event that focuses on creating space for the women's community at Delivery Hero to celebrate International Women's Day.

Every year the community gets together to raise awareness about inclusion goals during the month of March- Women Connect has become a symbol of this important date.

The event is hugely driven and supported by ‘Women @ DH’, a recognised employee resource group that is open to all employees who want to learn and support gender inclusion in the workplace, and the Women Connect event further highlights this.

The importance of Women Connect

Delivery Hero recognises the importance and urgency of improving gender diversity in the tech industry. As leaders in the tech space, we have an important role to play, and this event provides an opportunity to actively check-in on our progress and align our business and community goals.

Who was there?

This year, the Women Connect event was attended by 100+ employees in the Delivery Hero,  Berlin headquarters.

In terms of speakers, we were joined by the incredible  Kave Bulambo, who shared her inspiring journey and celebrated inclusion with our community. Kave is the founder of  BlackInTech Berlin and TalentDiverse, who, together with Chief People & Sustainability Officer, Ana Mitrasevic and Senior Vice President of Engineering, Ben Mann,  participated in a discussion, chaired by Sarah Briddon, Senior Manager of Employer Brand, about how to inspire inclusion for 2024 and beyond.

What was discussed?

Delivery Hero believes in honest and open discussions, where different perspectives are represented - with this in mind it is important to bring an external voice, like Kave, who can help us to challenge and elevate the conversation.

Kave’s participation was an excellent addition and she shared candid feedback throughout, along with her inspiring presentation and tale of her personal journey. One of the key topics focused on how we, as individuals and organizations can act to inspire inclusion on each other. This aligned with the global international Women’s day theme that also strongly resonates with our community and values at Delivery Hero.

Kave shared her thoughts on the importance of the session:

"Cultivating a culture of inclusion is not a day's task, but a commitment to embrace diversity every day, empowering everyone to bring their authentic selves to work and creating an environment where they can thrive.

When you are in a hyper-growth stage as an organization this is very hard to achieve, but I am encouraged by Delivery Hero's leadership commitment to ensuring that Diversity and inclusion stay on top of their priorities and that it is embedded in their processes. I felt that during the Women Connect panel discussion in celebration of Women's Day. Keep Inspiring Berlin."

What did the community think?

Henrieke Max, Data Science Manager and active member of the Women @ DH ERG commented that:

“The event embraced two things at once: Celebrating the women at Delivery Hero, our community and contributions, but also speaking transparently and sincerely to the persisting barriers and obstacles we are confronted with at the workplace, and the concrete actions taken and metrics tracked to measure if we are resolving them.

There was joy in connecting, yet no sugar-coating of where we are and where we need to go."

What’s next?

The Women @ DH employee resource group will continue to host smaller talks, meet-ups and events throughout the year.

In the spirit of celebrating underrepresented groups, Delivery Hero’s next community event is “Loud & Proud: Queers, Heroes & Friends'' to celebrate Delivery Hero's LGBTQA+ Community!

We cannot wait!
