Behind the Scenes: Executive & Team Assistants at Delivery Hero

Posting date: 24/05/2024

In this post, we introduce Lena Vieira, Monica Ivancea and Alice Marshall, three employees at Delivery Hero who play key roles in our success.

They share their experiences and insights from working in different parts of the company, showing what it’s like to be part of the Executive Services team and wider organization.

What makes being an Executive Assistant at Delivery Hero unique?

Monica:  For me, it’s the highly collaborative support setup: all assistants working under the same umbrella, exchanging knowledge, experiences and best practices, leading to a very fast execution process, with exceptionally high quality results and ability to swiftly change course whenever required.

We focus on learning from each other, and developing new processes together, bringing all our valuable experiences in, to develop agile solutions in a constantly developing environment. This acute awareness that we are much stronger together is visible at all levels of the organization, so we can bring the same work ethos outside of our support org, multiplying efforts for extraordinary results.

What do you find most rewarding about being an executive assistant at Delivery Hero?

Lena: We are always appreciated, by our stakeholders and leadership team. As an Executive Assistant to our SVP Engineering, I can't help but talk about the fantastic experience of collaborating with our dynamic tech leadership team. It's like being in the front row of a thrilling tech show, and the complexity of the technological topics I get to dive into is absolutely mind-blowing.

Our role in supporting our executives feels like being a key player in a fast-paced, high-stakes game, and seeing their contributions directly impact the company's success is incredibly fulfilling.

What's even more exciting about being part of a global company is the opportunity to connect and work alongside colleagues from all corners of the world. Learning from their diverse experiences and best practices is not just enlightening; it's downright inspiring.

Can you share an example of a particularly challenging situation you've handled as an executive assistant and how you navigated it successfully? Or what do you find the most challenging?

Alice: In my initial months at Delivery Hero, I played a role in arranging a large summit in Berlin. Since I was new to the company, I didn't have a good grasp of internal processes and key contacts. This led to delays in the project. Fortunately, my team provided the necessary support, allowing me the time and resources to undergo training and become well-versed in the company's operations and the objectives of the summit.

As a result, the summit was executed successfully.

How does your role as an executive assistant contribute to the overall success of the company and its executives?

Monica: I optimize, prioritize, deliver: this is the core work and constant effort that allows our executives to switch their attention towards the big picture, knowing that there is someone in the background who makes sure the deadlines are met and the right meetings are on the agenda.

What opportunities for professional development and growth are available to Executive Assistants at Delivery Hero? How can you take this skills as an EA forward in your career?

Alice: Delivery Hero offers lots of opportunities for professional development and advancement. Within our organisation, online learning resources are readily accessible and actively promoted. Additionally, in-house face-to-face training sessions, including sessions such as "Introduction to Project Management," are made available to all employees seeking to expand their skill sets and explore diverse avenues for growth.

I also experience direct engagement with senior executives, providing invaluable insights into the realm of senior management and leadership roles.

In your opinion, what qualities and skills make an outstanding executive assistant, and how does Delivery Hero support and nurture these traits in its assistants?

Lena: Being an Executive Assistant is such a dynamic role.

So, naturally there are a lot of skills, such as being a good communicator, and the ability to prioritise are skills that contribute to an EA’s success. I think being resourceful is a super power that an EA can have! It does not only help with getting your job done more effectively. It helps you to step out of your comfort zone and allows you to be bold and be confident with your day to day work.

Delivery Hero cultivates a supportive work environment, where you're just a question away if you ever feel uncertain or in need of assistance. We have a robust support system in place, and more often than not, you'll find numerous members from the assistant group eager to offer their help!
