Delivery Hero's Girls Day 2024: Innovate, Build, Play - Become a Hero!

At Delivery Hero, "We are Heroes because we care" is the value we live by, and genuine inclusion and representation are our priority. That’s why Delivery Hero hosted Girls Day Germany 2024—an event specifically designed to encourage young women to explore careers in technology and consider studying engineering.

Girls Day – 'Future Prospects for Girls' is the largest career orientation project for girls in Germany, taking place annually. On Girls Day, girls get to know professions or fields of study in which women are underrepresented, particularly in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

This year, Delivery Hero welcomed 11 bright students keen to dive into the tech world. The students delved into programming logic and gained hands-on experience using Scratch to create projects that ranged from digital stories to games and animations.

They were also joined by Delivery Hero's tech, product, and leadership teams, including speakers like Ben Mann, SVP Engineering, Raphaela Vergud, Software Engineer, and Katrin Abwerzger, Director of Product. The event was a vibrant mix of learning, interaction, and inspiration.

Women at Delivery Hero Community Collaboration

The event was a collaborative effort with the Women at Delivery Hero community, underscoring our commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive workplace. Four mentors from the community guided the students through their projects, providing insights and encouragement throughout the day.

One of the mentors shared their experience, saying, "As a mentor, it was a great opportunity for me to test my capabilities to explain and debug together with the young participants.”

This kind of feedback underscores the dual impact of Girls Day—empowering both participants and mentors. It fosters collaboration within the community and enhances the employee experience.

The Timeline

The journey to Girls Day was a dedicated three-month effort, beginning with the formation of the project team. The collaboration involved everything from planning the event structure to engaging volunteers, leading up to the big day in April. This teamwork ensured a smooth and successful event.

Looking Ahead

Encouraged by the success of Girls Day 2024, Delivery Hero is planning to host similar events in the future. The commitment to fostering diversity in tech continues, with plans to expand outreach to inspire more young women across all locations.
