Taking a Moment to Appreciate: Hero Give Thanks Week

The end of the year is always a time for reflection, but at a fast-paced company like Delivery Hero, it can also be high-intensity!

That’s why we introduced a new cultural ritual designed to bring good vibes, and help our teams slow down, reconnect, and celebrate our collective achievements: Hero Give Thanks Week.

This initiative was our first end-of-year gratitude and connection event, and we wanted to create moments that genuinely bring Heroes together as we wrap up a demanding year.

We planned to deliver on the following:

• Support Employee Wellbeing: Providing a vital "pause moment" at the end of a demanding year.
• Strengthen Community & Belonging: Creating opportunities for Heroes from different teams  to reconnect.
• Reinforce Appreciation: Building our culture of thanks and shared collective achievement.

A Week of Connection and Kindness

From November 24th to 28th, the Delivery Hero campus buzzed with meaningful moments. The activities were curated to be inclusive and focused on building community:

• Food Corner: A highlight at the beginning and end of the week, offering everything from sweet treats and snacks that encouraged casual interactions.
• Body & Mind Sessions: Opportunities for Heroes to pause with wellbeing and stretching activities, focusing on self-care.
• Volunteering Day: A powerful day where teams joined a local NGO, Berlin Stadtmission, to assemble kits for people in need, giving back directly to our community.
• Photo Booth: A popular, festive moment for teams to capture fun memories together.
• Hero Give Thanks Wall: An ever-growing gratitude wall where Heroes could share simple 'thank you' messages, reinforcing a positive atmosphere.
• Clothing Donation Corner: A simple way to contribute to the community while cleaning out unwanted clothes.

The Outcome: A Successful Pause

We saw steady engagement throughout all five days, and the emotional impact was positive. Heroes expressed genuine appreciation for the "pause moment" the week provided, allowing them to step away from their desks for a moment and strengthen relationships with colleagues from different departments.

Overall, the week helped us close the year with warmth, community, and a well-deserved sense of shared recognition.
