Good Vibes Only: Wrapping Up Our Spotlight Series With a Smile

The final chapter in our Leadership Principles Spotlight Series went with a smile. Hosted by Laura Gonia, Senior Director, Product Management, the session opened with a warm welcome and a reminder: “I’m your host… and the official bringer of Good Vibes!”

With energetic introductions, icebreakers, and even a digital emoji storm from online participants, Laura set the tone for a session all about authentic connection, optimism, and showing up for each other,  even when times are tough.

Everyday Actions Make a Difference

Guest speaker Ben Mann, Chief Technology Officer, framed good vibes not as a personality trait, but as a result of daily behaviors. “It’s like a bank account, you make deposits and withdrawals,” Ben explained, emphasizing self-awareness, self-regulation, and surrounding yourself with a trusted circle that offers honest feedback.

Ben reminded us that leaders multiply their impact through their actions, especially during tough times. “When things are hard, double down on the behaviors that build trust and positivity.”

What Are Good Vibes?

Laura invited Cindy Okello, Manager, Product Support, and Andreas Krause, General Counsel, to unpack what it means to Bring Good Vibes in the real world of work.

Cindy shared:  “It’s not about sunshine and rainbows, it’s about being real. If you're having a rough day, Bring Good Vibes by being honest. Ask yourself: Does someone on my team need help today? Can I show up for them with care and curiosity?”

Andreas added: “In my role, I have to say ‘no’ a lot. Not the easiest setup for Good Vibes! But what matters is psychological safety. Can we make mistakes, own them, and solve things together without finger-pointing? That’s what creates a good, supportive environment.”

Together, they reminded us that Good Vibes doesn’t mean forced positivity, it means being present, authentic, and thoughtful about our impact on others.

The Core Pillars of Good Vibes

The participants elaborated on the three pillars that make this principle stick:

Be a Good Team Player: 

  • Show empathy
  • Be aware of your impact
  • Support each other, even when you're under pressure

Focus on What’s Possible:

  • Don’t get stuck in what you can’t control
  • Look for creative solutions, even when the going gets tough

Create a Positive Workplace:

  • Celebrate wins
  • Check in, not just on the work, but on each other
  • Make space for joy, like morning greetings

It’s Not Always Easy

Cindy and Andreas acknowledged that even with the best intentions, Bringing Good Vibes has its challenges. From managing changing scopes to tricky negotiations, the key is staying grounded in authenticity and psychological safety.

Andreas warned about the pitfall of fake positivity and the danger of focusing too much on what we can’t change. Instead, he encouraged us to focus on what’s possible and support one another in the process.

Final Thoughts: Good Vibes That Stick

Laura closed out the session and the entire Spotlight Series with three reminders:

  1. Managers have a lot of power, remember that your vibe sets the tone
  2. Knowing your teammates builds trust
  3. Good Vibes are everyone’s responsibility

So here’s to Bringing Good Vibes with empathy, honesty, and intention. Not just when it’s easy… but especially when it’s not!
