About the opportunity

We are on the lookout for a Software Engineer II, Kotlin/Java - (Logistics Optimisation, Routing Experimentation) to join the Logistics Optimisation, Routing Experimentation team on our journey to always deliver amazing experiences.

In our Logistics Team, you’ll tackle high-impact challenges that make last-mile delivery efficient, affordable, and sustainable. Your work will directly improve experiences for riders, end customers, and merchants across the globe. Each enhancement you contribute will help Delivery Hero optimize delivery operations, supporting expansion into new areas like grocery and retail.

The Experimentation squad owns an ecosystem used by algorithm engineers and operations to simulate real-life behaviour of food delivery fleets. We run dozens of city-scale simulations per day to provide insights about new hypotheses and features performances, to let only the best of them reach the AB testing stage in real life. We also provide a management platform for configurations of our whole tribe, giving fine tuning capabilities as well as an operational overview of the delivery situation.

Our squad is an important part of the Optimisation domain, that makes sure that our order delivery gets profitable and faster every day.

  • Be technical expert: demonstrate technical savviness and expertise in programming languages, frameworks, databases. Be an inspiration for peers and junior colleagues.

  • Own your software: own the process of architecture design for squad services. Monitor and improve the existing service landscape. Make effective and weighted decisions while building scalable and resilient software. Implement monitoring and alerting.

  • Be autonomous: effectively manage your own time, own your software end to end, including design, cloud deployment and monitoring

  • Be creative: share your ideas, challenge the status quo. 

  • Be a team player: Grow and succeed together with the team, be collaborative and bring arguments to the discussion.

  • Understand the domain: understand the real needs of the users and help Product to solve their problems. Be ready to dive in and study the business domain and propose your own ideas.


What you need to be successful

  • 3+ years of professional application development experience.

  • Work effectively in Agile/Scrum environments, contributing to estimations and sprint planning.

  • Proficiency in Kotlin (preferred) or Java with Spring or Quarkus frameworks.

  • Design and implement service-oriented and microservices architectures.

  • Implement CI/CD pipelines and collaborate with modern development workflows.

  • Utilize cloud and infrastructure technologies, including AWS (or similar), Kubernetes, Terraform, Docker, and SQL/NoSQL databases.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Grafana and Prometheus.

  • Knowledge of distributed systems and horizontal scalability topics.

  • Experience with highly concurrent systems and multi-threading.

  • Experience with languages such as TypeScript, Python, or Go, is a plus.

  • Experience with the Micronaut framework.

  • Experience in the Logistics domain.
