Senior Data Scientist (consumer discovery)

We are on the lookout for a Senior Data Scientist to join the Consumer Discovery tribe on our journey to always deliver amazing experiences.

We provide cutting-edge Search and Recommendation services across all our platforms, impacting millions of users worldwide. Our search functionality spans more than 60 countries and 35 languages, facilitating over 80 million searches daily across four continents. 

• Develop and Optimize Search Algorithms: Enhance and research new search machine learning algorithms for semantic search, query understanding, and personalization, to deliver the most relevant results to our users.

• Collaborate Across Teams: Work as part of a cross-functional team, including Backend Engineers and Data Engineers, to improve our global search end-2-end. Work closely with product managers to find the best solutions for our customer’s problems.

• Analyze and interpret large datasets: Extract meaningful insights to understand relevance problems and communicate them to stakeholders.

• Innovate and Experiment: Identify and apply the best machine learning and statistical methods to solve complex problems, ensuring solutions are scalable and effective in production environments.

• Navigate Ambiguity: Take a lead in tackling ambiguous business problems, ensuring clear problem definitions, translating them into data science projects.

• Experience: Master’s degree (or Bachelor’s with 6+ years of work experience) in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Theoretical Chemistry, or similar. 4+ years of experience as a data scientist applying science on complex business problems.

• Technical Expertise: Proficiency in SQL and Python and its ML ecosystem is essential. Experience with Java and Scala is a plus.

• Machine Learning Knowledge: Strong understanding of a wide variety of ML and statistical methods, including Classical ML, Deep Learning, NLP, and Recsys. Ability to discern the most suitable approach for different problems.

• Search and Ranking ML Algorithms: Hands-on working experience with search machine learning algorithms, such as learning to rank, semantic search, and personalization.

• Problem-Solving: Comfortable with ambiguity and capable of navigating it to define clear data science problems and solutions. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on delivering practical solutions.

• Collaborative Spirit: Proven experience working in cross-functional teams, contributing effectively to joint projects and achieving common goals. Excellent communication skills to articulate complex ideas and influence stakeholders.
