Government Relations Lead, SSA

YOUR MISSION

As our Government Relations lead, you will architect the political and regulatory strategy for Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Tunisia, and Uganda. Sitting within the Global Affairs team —comprising Government Relations, PR Comms, and Impact & Sustainability—, you’ll bridge the gap between business goals and public policy by building high-stakes relationships and anticipating legislative shifts. 

You will act as a trusted advisor to leadership, ensuring our interests are protected and our reputation is championed. Your work ensures every policy outcome and communication is consistent with Glovo’s purpose, creating a favorable environment where both our business and the local digital economy can thrive.

Be a part of a team where you will:

• Define, manage, and execute the non-market strategy of Glovo around public affairs, supporting communication efforts and leveraging impact and sustainability projects. 

• You will personally lead engagement with senior stakeholders at local level, and contribute to high-impact Pan-African policy discussions. 

• Lead local consultancies and collaborate with think tanks, industry associations and other key sources to plan a robust strategy. 

• Become the go-to-person for legislative and regulatory topics in the region, anticipating changes early, tracking draft legislation, and mapping policy timelines and decision makers. 

• Speak to the business: deliver in-depth analysis to the Management team of the local stakeholder environment, risks and opportunities, identifying right relationships in the regulatory, administrative, and social spheres. 

• Act as a key liaison across various internal departments to ensure cross-departmental alignment on strategies that address the country’s most pressing issues, aligned with business performance.  Strong expertise in building strategies that build from business needs. 

• Ensure full compliance with lobbying transparency, conflicts of interest, gifts and hospitality rules, and political engagement policies, protecting Glovo’s reputation.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE RIDE

• 5+ years of progressive experience in government relations / public affairs, with a deep understanding of the regulatory landscape and reputation dynamics across Africa. We’re open to candidates who’ve been leaders in other careers (e.g. legal & corporate affairs, industrial relations, public sector) and may be looking for a career change.

• Native or fluent proficiency in English and French is a must in order to engage with anglo and francophone stakeholders and institutions. 

• Location: While this role is based in Barcelona, it requires a daily strategic focus on the African region and the ability to travel on a monthly basis to countries. 

• A strong understanding of the African political landscape and regulatory environment; special focus on any of the countries is a plus. 

• Strategic "Doer" Mentality: you prioritize doing over delegating, with a startup mindset that empowers you to roll up your sleeves and take direct action to safeguard our business model on a daily basis.

• Agile Crisis Management: A proven track record of handling high-stakes reputational crises with quick decision-making under pressure.
