Software Engineer, Python - (Platform) (all genders)

We are looking for a Software Engineer, Python - (Platform) (all genders) to join the Site Reliability Engineering team on our journey to deliver amazing experiences.

As a Software Engineer on the Incident Response Squad, you will play a crucial role in enhancing our incident management capabilities.

Short description of the team & position:
The Incident Response Team at Delivery Hero handles unexpected events that disrupt operations or customer experiences. Their responsibilities include assessing priorities, escalating incidents, diagnosing issues, and implementing mitigations. The team  aims to respond promptly and effectively to incidents, minimizing downtime and business impact while being transparent. We promote proactive detection, quick response, thorough diagnostics, and collaborative problem-solving.

The long-term goals involve improving detection and resolution processes, developing robust playbooks, enhancing post-incident learning, and expanding team expertise. Effective incident management helps minimize service disruptions, avoid revenue loss, and protect the company's reputation. We work dynamically across departments to solve problems and continuously improve.

Stakeholders include executive management, service and business owners, end users, and on-call engineers. The team's efforts ensure operational stability, protect revenue streams, and maintain high reliability standards, reinforcing customer trust and loyalty.

Detail some of the key roles and responsibilities of the position 

• Incident Response Tool: Your development efforts will focus on core incident response tooling, including adding new features and enhancing existing ones. You will also improve postmortem processes and tools to ensure comprehensive incident analysis and create and optimize features for Incident Bots to streamline incident management. Additionally, you will develop and implement systems to improve various incident metrics, providing application teams with actionable insights into alert effectiveness to help reduce incident frequencies and impact.

• Development and Improvement: Enhance and streamline our incident response processes with new and innovative features, continually improving our ability to respond effectively to incidents.

• Team Collaboration: On a day-to-day basis, attend and contribute to daily standups, planning sessions, and retrospective meetings. Partner with other engineers, SREs, and stakeholders to discuss features and improvements, ensuring effective collaboration and progress. Participate in architectural decisions, considering long-term impact and code readability.

• Mentorship and Support: Provide mentorship and support to less experienced engineers, fostering their growth and development within the team.

• Best Practices Implementation: You will implement and advocate for best practices in software engineering principles, guiding the team to ensure optimal implementation and continuous improvement in our incident response capabilities.

• Proven Experience in Python: Demonstrated work experience as a Python Engineer, with proficiency in at least one popular Python framework (e.g., Django, Flask, FastAPI) and skilled in using testing frameworks like pytest. Additionally, candidates should have experience with the broader Python ecosystem or a strong interest in working with it.

• Database Knowledge: Familiarity with both SQL and NoSQL database technologies.

• Experience in building distributed, cloud-native microservices and knowledge of deploying applications on Kubernetes.

• Scalable Software Engineering and Development Methodologies: Demonstrated expertise in modern software development methodologies and scalable distributed systems, including event-driven architecture. Skilled in designing solutions with a focus on cost, performance, and maintainability. Proven ability to engineer reliable, scalable software while understanding the necessary trade-offs. 

• Business Impact Awareness: Ability to see and articulate the connection between engineering solutions and business problems, inspiring others through this understanding with full professional proficiency in English and strong communication skills.

• Continuous Learning and Open-Mindedness: Open to exploring new or alternative approaches and comfortable making recommendations for the most optimal path.

Nice to have:

Define any desired skills that would be helpful to have in order to do the role well.

• Familiarity with front-end technologies and frameworks and Go (Golang) as an additional programming language.

• Knowledge of observability practices and tools (Familiarity with OpenTelemetry)

• Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS and GCP, as well as some level of experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform.
