Principal Software Engineer - Fintech

We are on the lookout for a Principal Engineer to join our Fintech team, lead our global platform’s tech strategy and build a worldwide Payments platform with us. As a Principal Engineer of building the financial backbone of Delivery Hero, you’ll develop global Fintech products such as Payments, Fraud Detection, Wallet and Credit Products for nearly 70 countries across four continents, serving a population of up to 2.2 billion people. Your work will support our path to sustainability by creating financial flexibility for our users and enabling seamless transactions.

Your regular day as a Principal Engineer

• Lead Global Payment Platform’s Tech Strategy: Be an active partner for Engineering and Product Management to provide the best value for stakeholders and our customers. Define long term tech strategy and technical OKRs for Fintech and Delivery Hero with a strong focus on reliability, scalability, cost and security.

• Design and Scale Global Solutions: Design and maintain world-class, high traffic services and APIs in a team of more than a hundred experienced software engineers. Drive cross-domain architecture discussions and present global architecture in Delivery Hero reviews. Challenge the status quo and identify improvement points for individual components, as well as the system as a whole.

• Drive Innovation: Drive technological innovation (through RFCs or other tools), explain, discuss and align decisions paving the future of our solutions. Perform periodical reviews of reliability, performance, cost efficiency and security on Fintech level. Explore “uncharted territories”, take a proactive approach, think out of the box and foresee upcoming but not yet visible technical challenges in the next one or two years.

• Drive Engineering Excellence: Set standards for Engineering Excellence by leading by example and mentoring engineers (primarily Senior and Staff engineers). Foster knowledge sharing across Fintech and Delivery Hero, promote and introduce best practices to continuously improve teams performance and developers' experience. Enable visibility of our system’s KPIs through meaningful metrics, dashboards, and alerts. Be part of Delivery Hero Principal Engineering Council and contribute to Delivery Hero’s Tech strategy and execution. 

• Global Payments Expertise: One of the most knowledgeable experts on global payments architectures, with deep expertise in product development and technical topics.

• Distributed Architecture: 10+ years of experience building and delivering software solutions, distributed systems including their reliability, performance, cost and security. Proven experience in JVM-based technologies (Kotlin Knowledge is a plus). 

• Infrastructure and Data Storage: Deep knowledge of data storage systems such as PostgreSQL and Redis. Knowledge of AWS, SQS/SNS, Terraform, Kubernetes and infrastructure as a code. Understanding of observability tools such as Grafana, Kibana, DataDog etc.

• Cloud Cost Optimization: Experience with cloud cost optimization. Ability to lead and drive cloud cost saving initiatives across multiple teams.

• Engineering Excellence: Experience in owning the operational excellence of large scale applications and driving resolution of high severity incidents by extracting learnings and follow-up actions.
